Backyard Fun

This afternoon we headed out to the backyard to enjoy the beautiful weather!   I pushed the twins in their swings for a little while and then we sat down to play in the grass.

"Where are our toys?"

"I guess I'll just look at that squirrel."

"Where, Rhys?  I don't see it."

"It's right there on the tree!"

"There is so much to see!"

"Hmmm....what's this?  A leaf?  Oh, I wonder what it tastes like."

"Let me try."

"I'll try it too."

"Not too bad, but maybe this grass tastes better."

"It's better to just hold the grass and leaves, Rhys."

"Thanks, Rhett.  You are such a good big brother."

 "I LOVE my backyard!"

"Backyards are SO fun!"

Will Run for Ice Cream!

This past weekend we went to Brenham for the 34th annual Blue Bell Fun Run.  Blue Bell hosts the event to raise money for the Brenham High School Athletic Program.  This race was always one of my dad's favorites....he loved high school sports and he loved Blue Bell ice cream.  What is unique about this race is that you get to eat all the ice cream you want after you cross the finish line!  We all decided that my dad would be proud if we continued to do the run each year, so we did.   My mom did a wonderful job hosting us all, as usual, and we had a fun weekend!

Here are Rhett and Rhys getting ready before the race.  Don't they look excited?  (It was just about nap time when the race started.)

There was a record 4500 registrants for the race this year!

R&R did great during the race.  They loved looking around and watching all the excitement.

Some of our friends joined us for the race.  April and Kathryn were some of Caydee's college roommates and have become close friends of our family.  This was our 2nd year to race with them.

Yay!  We finished!

And then...

The best part of the Blue Bell Fun Run...

Can you tell that Tim was really excited about the ice cream?  How else do you think I got him to sign up to run?  I think he ate 4 ice cream bars.  And no, I'm not kidding.

Rhys enjoyed a taste of my strawberry fruit bar.  She really just wanted to chew on the stick.

Rhett wasn't in the mood for ice cream this morning.  He took one little taste of daddy's ice cream sandwich and was finished.

After the race we just visited with friends while enjoying our ice cream.

I loved how many families were out doing the race together.  We saw tons of strollers with babies, kids, and even lots of dogs.  Check out this pooch cheering on the runners....
Is it a Blue Bell Cow or a puppy?

Rhett & Rhys have now completed their 2nd race!  We hope to be able to continue to do the Blue Bell run each year.  It won't be long and R&R will be running right along with us!

After the race we went back to my mom's house.  We had lots of company and it was so much fun.  Kathryn and April brought their babies over.   My best friend, Jenny, drove over from East Bernard with her 2 boys (Jake & Easton) to spend the afternoon with us.  My cousin, Heather, and her kids (Zach & Zoe) also came to join in on the fun.  There were 8 kids age 3 and under....it was crazy!

Lots of playing going on!

I was so excited that Jenny was able to come over.  It was the first time for me to meet sweet baby Easton!

Jake, her 3 year old, was so much fun to be with, too.

Of course the babies became fast friends.

Wow...how times have changed!  I love this picture of Jenny and me and our babies.

After lunch we sat out on the back patio and watched Jake and Zoe swim.  They were so cute together!
Even Zach braved the cold pool water!

Uncle Sean and Aunt Brandy (and baby Landry due in August!) lounged in the rockers.

Easton decided to nap while we were all outside.

When he woke up, I was thrilled to get a few baby snuggles.

Daddy and Rhett enjoyed the nice weather.

We all had such a nice time together.  After our friends left we went inside for some dinner, and then there was a knock at the door.  My Uncle Don and Aunt Ruby had driven over and surprised us with a visit!  A bonus to an already great day!

What a wonderful weekend....can't wait til next time!

A Big Day

I should have known something big would happen today.

Rhys woke up happy as could be, "singing" in her crib until I went to get her.

She had a gigantic breakfast....a whole waffle, an entire banana, and about half of my bowl of oatmeal.  (that is A LOT of food for this tiny little girl!)

During Rhett's physical therapy session, she was very playful, and seemed to be "showing off."  She was babbling non-stop, crawling, bending, squatting, reaching, and doing all the things that she knew would get her some attention.  She would take a couple of steps and then sit down and clap for herself.  Patti (Rhett's therapist) and I would laugh, and she would do it again.

While I was fixing dinner tonight, I heard the pitter patter of small feet on the tile.  I looked to find Rhys walking across the kitchen!  I think she probably took 7 or 8 steps each time before she would sit down.

Oh my, our lives will never be the same again.  I'm trying to remember this is a good thing!  Ha!

It was a big day indeed.

Easter Weekend

We spent this Easter weekend at home, just our little family, and it was wonderful!  Saturday we all took long naps, made a trip to Walmart, and went to the park.

After the babies went to bed, the Easter Bunny stopped by and filled their baskets with goodies.

That sweet bunny even left a surprise for mommy and daddy, too! I wasn't going to add this in, but it is too funny not to share....we went to Walmart to pick up a couple of things, and Tim turns our basket down the Easter candy aisle....he said we needed to pick out chocolate bunnies.  He was very serious and started looking around.  I told him that I really didn't want the babies to have chocolate, and then he told me that they were for us.  Well, he didn't have to tell me twice.  I found my Reese's bunny in about 5 seconds and it was in the cart.  Tim looked at ALL the choices, several times, and then picked his. (see pic below)  I was teasing him because out of all the bunnies they had, he picked this little guy.  I think we just started a new tradition....picking out our own chocolate bunnies!

Sunday morning we were blessed to be able to worship with our church family.  Even Rhett and Rhys had a great time at church and did not want to leave their class when we went to pick them up!  I love worshipping on Easter because it reminds me of God's power.  Just one year ago, on Easter Sunday, we sat around my sweet daddy's hospital bed and had our own worship service, one I will never forget.  And today, I was reminded once again, that death has no victory.  Christ is risen and is alive.  What a mighty God we serve!

We came home from church and Tim made fajitas for lunch and I think Rhett ate just as much as I did.  :)

After naps we headed out to take some bluebonnet pictures.  We had seen a field covered in them just last weekend, but were a little disappointed when we got there as most of the bluebonnets were gone already.

Tim is such a great photographer, though, and was able to get some good pictures.  The sun was really bright and they were so distracted with all of the flowers, bugs, dirt, etc. and so it was hard to get them to look at the camera.  Oh, and Rhett kept eating the flowers!  He would pull off a petal, taste it, spit it out, and then do it again.  We couldn't even get him to look at the camera at all!  It was fun to watch them, and I am so glad that we decided to do it.  Here are just a few of my favorites.

 my favorite!

Happy Easter!
